Participants in this six-week Industrial Design Studio will begin with designing a product based on Prague as a tourist city. Observing a different culture and environment gives the designer a new point of view that may spark new design solutions. The program includes several excursions to towns in the Czech Republic, and visits to designer’s studios, museums and galleries with examples of historic and contemporary architecture, art and design.
Using traditional digital and hand-drawn techniques for design sketching and problem-solving methods, students will work on a service-based design solution chosen from a variety of challenges. In collaboration with an organization such as Doctors without Borders, students will evaluate issues such as economic disparity, social isolation, and those specific to refugees or migrants.
